The New York World says : — The troubles of the time-honoured sport of steeplechasing have begun, and the Illinois courts are to be called upon to decide whether it is illegal or not. It is contended that the risking of life and limb by man and horse involved in it is to be construed as abuse of the horse, and hence it is prohibited by the laws against cruelty to animals.
